Accidents cause 60 per cent car insurance rise

Motorists could see a future car insurance quote rise by as much as 60 per cent if they are found to be at fault in a road accident, according to new research.
After analysing ten million quotes, moneysupermarket.com declared that finding cheap car insurance cover becomes much tougher for a driver declared at fault in a road accident.
Those discovered to be the most common causers of accidents by the research were bus drivers, which is surprising considering they become accustomed to using roads on a daily basis.
Also, motorists who work in the health profession were found to be more commonly at fault in road accidents, including GPs and speech therapists.
Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Being at fault in a car accident is terrifying enough for any motorist but with purse strings tightening all over the country a hike of over 60 per cent on premiums should make Brits think twice about running risks on the roads.
"When an insurer risk assesses a driver, any history of accidents will no doubt mean motorists pay more."
A motorist on the look out for cheap car insurance may find shopping around for a better deal to be their best way of reducing the cost of a car insurance quote.
