Burglary "hotspots" revealed

Home, building and contents insurance customers in some parts of the country are unluckier than others when it comes to having to worry about burglaries, a new study has suggested.
The top three most popular places for thieves are the cities of London, Leeds and Manchester, according to new research.
Harrow, Uxbridge and Wembley tied for fourth place in the list, compiled by Halifax.
Next came Nottingham, Slough, Bradford, Bolton and Wigan, Solihull and south east Birmingham, followed by joint tenth place winners Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth and Lichfield.
Senior claims manager Martyn Foulds said the dark evenings would see a rise in thefts from houses all over the country.
"Although home insurance will cover any financial loss, some items such as family heirlooms and items of sentimental value cannot be replaced, so it's far better to avoid a burglary happening in the first place."
The company recommends people fit good door and window locks, burglar alarms and mark property with a UV pen.
People who have been burgled should tell the police and their insurer as soon as possible.
