Businesses urged to 'prepare for swine flu'

Companies have been advised to have comprehensive business continuity procedures in place should an outbreak of swine flu cripple their workforce.
Mike Ballantine, business development manager at Aastra, said that firms need to be able to stratify their workforce in order to limit the spread of infection.
Therefore, the adoption of home working practices could be one way to achieve this.
In addition, workers might be interested in taking out a private health insurance policy in order to gain access to antiviral treatments faster than their NHS counterparts.
He commented: "Businesses must continue, so they have got to look at how they can do that in the best possible way and I think that home working is a really strong point and it's not such an onerous procedure as it used to be."
According to a report recently published by the Chartered Management Institute, 42 per cent of UK organisations have plans in place to cater for IT losses and 30 per cent are prepared to cope with enforced absence of staff or severe weather.
