More motorists claiming for whiplash

Rising numbers of people claiming on their motor insurance for whiplash injuries has been stated as a key reason why many motorists are seeing their average car insurance quote rise.
A report by the Association of British Insurers, with contributions from the AA, has found that 1,200 people are claiming on their car insurance every day for whiplash following their involvement in a car accident.
This figure shows a rise of 25 per cent of claims of this nature within the last five years, with 430,000 people claiming for whiplash injury in 2007 alone.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "The cost of whiplash claims equates to about £66 for every UK car insurance policy, or about 14 per cent of the average Shoparound car insurance premium. This is more than twice the cost of claims for accidents with uninsured drivers."
President of the AA, Edmund King, added that motorists could reduce their chances of suffering from whiplash by ensuring they are travelling a safe distance behind a vehicle in front.
As well as shopping around for cheap car insurance cover, motorists could also make motoring savings by developing smarter driving techniques, according to Tim Anderson from the Energy Saving Trust.
