Motorists being "casual" and encouraging thieves

A large number of motorists are leaving goods in a parked car, which is increasing the chances of the vehicle being broken into by thieves, a new report has discovered.
The study by LV= has found that many drivers are leaving valuables such as clothes, mobile phones and wallets in their parked cars, encouraging thieves to chance their arms.
Men and young drivers are the most lax in their attitudes, as they leave an average of £380 worth of goods in their cars.
Emma Holyer, spokesperson for LV= Car Insurance, said: "These figures show a casual attitude amongst motorists when it comes to leaving their belongings in their car.
"The fact is that most car break-ins are by opportunist thieves who would probably not bother to break into the car if it looked as though it didn't contain anything to steal."
Having a vehicle broken into may cause a person to find it tougher to get cheap car insurance cover on a future car insurance quote, as making a claim will lead an insurer to deem them as more of a risk.
