Motorists not understanding alcoholic units in drinks

A hefty number of motorists are putting their cheap car insurance at risk by not understanding the number of alcoholic units present in many drinks, new research has found.
AlcoSense has conducted a drink drive survey and discovered that many motorists underestimate the alcoholic content in certain drinks.
Some 96 per cent of respondents to the survey didn't know that there are 3.4 units of alcohol in a pint of six per cent ABV lager and 97 per cent failed to know the content was the same in a 250 ml glass of 13 per cent ABV wine.
Instead, many of the respondents believed that both drinks only contained the legal limit of two units.
Hunter Abbott, chief executive of AlcoSense, said: "This is worrying for the evening, but even more worrying for the morning after as people are vastly underestimating just how much alcohol they have consumed. Only four of these drinks could put you over the limit the following morning."
Moneysupermarket.com recently stated that a person's motor insurance could increase by 82 per cent if they are caught drinking and driving.
