New cervical cancer campaign launched

Healthcare authorities in the UK have launched a new campaign to ensure that GPs spot the symptoms of cervical cancer earlier.
Health minister Ann Keen, says the drive will be launched after a review by the advisory committee on cervical screening (ACCS) reported that young women displaying symptoms are not always being given appropriate advice, which may boost the need for cancer cover.
Ms Keen said that she had met numerous women with the disease in the last 12 months and was determined to see that that a policy is in their best interests.
"They have concluded that the screening age should not be lowered but have recommended that we do more work around the treatment of symptomatic patients," she explained.
Ms Keen added that she hoped the campaign would help even more women across the country to take steps to prevent the disease, which kills nearly 3,000 women a year, and to identify symptoms early, which may save lives.
