New compounds could give breast cancer hope

The scientist who has created two new compounds to combat cancer says they could be potential new treatments.
The substances - S3I-201 and S3I-M2001 - were created by professor James Turkson at the University of Central Florida.
Initial trials suggest they can successfully disrupt bonding of a protein linked to cancer.
Mr Turkson said: "The compounds are very promising. They've worked very well in mice and now we're looking for partners to help us take these compounds to the next level of trials."
He explained the human body has the STAT3 protein and normally it is harmless, as women who have an interest in breast cancer insurance might already know.
In breast cancer patients, however, it has been found to behave differently and does not "shut off", fostering the growth of cancer cells and enabling it to spread to other areas of the body.
Those interested in Well Woman insurance should also be aware breast cancer can affect men too. Husbands and partners of women with this insurance can also get cover.
Mr Turkson is also working on a similar compound to combat pancreatic cancer.
