Schoolchildren 'should receive alcohol education'

Children should be taught about responsible drinking while they are still at school, according to one industry expert.
Richard Bampfield, chairman of the Association of Wine Educators, says there is a sense that younger people see alcohol purely as a means to get drunk.
However, it is the duty of manufacturers in the wine and alcohol industry to teach children about consuming alcohol as part of an active and healthy lifestyle, so they do not abuse it when they are of drinking age, he states.
"I would prefer to see this message coming from parents. But, failing that, I think it would be helpful if it happened in schools," Mr Bampfield explains.
A recent survey by The Drinkaware Trust found that four out of ten parents say they would proactively teach their children about alcohol when they were around 14, but the majority of youths claim this is a year later than the time they began drinking, which may boost the need for family health insurance.
