Thefts 'could rise' as night grow darker

There are steps home, building and contents insurance policy holders can take to protect their possessions as the dark evenings lure thieves out in search of unattended properties.
South Yorkshire Police has issued a checklist of common sense and easy ways of making a home seem a bad bet to criminals.
They include using timer switches for lights and radios, giving the impression someone is home.
In addition, it advises people get a burglar alarm fitted and ensure that doors and windows are secure, even when someone is at home.
Leaving spare keys for children hidden in the garden or shed is also a dangerous thing to do, it warned, as thieves were likely to do look for these first.
"Many burglaries are a crime of opportunity," it said in a statement.
"A burglar only need to spot an open window, unlocked side gate or a home in darkness to make their move. Don't make things easy for them."
Last month, the force reported two mountain bikes had been stolen from outside a shop in Sheffield.
