  • My name is Yvonne Green. I’m 47 yrs old and I was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of years after having taken out a WellWoman insurance plan with AIG.
  • They found a small lump in my left breast, unfortunately after it had been removed and tested they found it was a malignant tumour and my surgeon said I should have a mastectomy straight away.
  • As you can imagine this was a really stressful time, the cancer diagnosis had really thrown my life upside down and the last thing I needed to be doing was worrying about money, but obviously I had to.
  • As a single parent I was extremely concerned about who was going to look after my children while I was in hospital and while I was recovering afterwards, because after major surgery you can’t lift things, you can’t do hoovering, you can’t do washing. The only help I was offered is that they would put my children in care for two weeks which I did not want at all.
  • So what I did was contacted AIG to claim on my WellWoman policy and they were brilliant. The people at the other end of the phone were so helpful and the whole thing was sorted so painlessly, it meant I got the money really quickly to do things like pay for the childcare.
  • My treatment was in London so it meant I needed to go up to London regularly and after the operation I had to go up every week and I couldn’t go on the underground or buses having just had major surgery so I was able to get taxis and trains.
  • Knowing that I had that money from the WellWoman plan it meant that I could also plan some treats, so when I was in my hospital bed I could start dreaming about things like my ideal kitchen and when I came out I could get quotes and get my ideal kitchen installed. I also promised the children that when I well I would take them on a dream trip to Disneyland in Florida and again thanks to the money we went and did that and had a brilliant time in Florida.
  • I told all my friends about the policy, I told them how brilliant it had been for me, how much it had helped me and as a result most of my friends then took out the policy. They had never thought of it before and didn’t even know it existed. So again they have that feeling of security that I had.
  • If you were thinking about taking out this policy I would say just go for it. It’s so easy and yet it pays out so quickly and really can make a difference to you at a very very difficult time in your life.
  • AIG Direct has changed it’s name to Chartis Direct.
