Dancing 'is best form of exercise for kids'

Overweight children have been advised to take up dancing as a way of shifting any unwanted pounds.
Dr David Haslam, chair of the National Obesity Forum, has said that children benefit from increased levels of activity and dancing is one form of exercise that children enjoy.
Furthermore, getting involved in dance classes helps children develop better social and communication skills, he noted.
"I think dancing is just about the right level of activity: it's brisk but not too vigorous, it's cardiovascular, rather than muscle-building and as I said, it is enjoyable," he commented.
In addition, Mr Haslam added that the more physical activity which children partake in, then the greater their degree of concentration in more sedentary pastimes will be.
According to the Department for Health, nearly one in three children in year six of primary schools across the UK are overweight or obese, a condition which can impact upon a family health insurance plan.
Furthermore, statistics compiled by the organisation showed that the percentage of children who are obese is almost twice as high in year six than in reception.
