Metabolic syndrome 'increases breast cancer risk'

Women suffering from metabolic syndrome may have an increased risk of developing cancer, new research reveals.
A study conducted at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, has found that some factors which cause the disease may also lead to the development of postmenopausal breast cancer, which may increase the need for breast cancer insurance.
Metabolic syndrome affects millions of people worldwide and is due to insulin resistance and high blood glucose levels, as well as poor diet and lack of activity.
Dr Geoffrey Kabat, senior epidemiologist in the department of epidemiology and population health at the institution, says further research will establish the link between metabolic syndrome and other breast cancer causes, such as reproductive and hormonal factors.
In related news, British cancer surgeon Mo Keshtgar recently developed a new form of breast cancer surgery involving light therapy, which may give hope to people with cancer cover.
