Weight loss 'easy' with a sensible diet plan

With the nation's collective waistline expanding every year, healthcare experts have warned that people need to take better care of themselves, but one expert has pointed out that it is easy for people to stay trim and avoid the risk of obesity-related diseases.
Dr Jacquie Lavin, head of nutrition and research at Slimming World, said that following a healthy diet and exercise regime is not as difficult as it seems, as the two go hand in hand.
She noted that the more people exercise, the less they need to follow a low-fat diet to lose weight and vice-versa.
Her comments came after a new report published by the American Journal of Preventive Medicine Effects showed that married women with a child are four pounds heavier than single women who do not have offspring.
Dr Lavin said that women expecting children can help to prevent weight gain easily, as this is the time when they generally put on the most pounds.
According to the expert, many women do not stay active enough during their pregnancy, which causes an accumulation of fat that does not disappear after birth.
"It's important that mums eat a healthy diet both during pregnancy and once they've given birth. Eating healthily shouldn't mean restricting your diet or counting calories though," she added.
The expert added that moderate physical exercise a few times a week, combined with a generous portion of fruit and vegetables each day, can help people to lose weight consistently and healthily.
