People 'will try to get fitter' in 2010

A new report has revealed that 22 per cent of people in the UK can no longer climb the stairs without feeling out of breath at the top, but one expert has claimed that this will spur some on to be more active in 2010.
Elin Tough, deputy features editor at Zest, said that an increasing number of people will try to get in shape next year in order to trim down and reduce the risk of developing obesity-related conditions such as heart disease.
Her comments followed the publication of a report by juice company Welch's, which showed that, in addition to the 22 per cent of people who get tired by climbing the stairs, one in five are left "sweating" after using the vacuum cleaner for just 16 minutes and 40 per cent of people need to sit down after mowing the lawn.
Ms Tough told private health cover holders that women in particular will aim to get fitter in the new year.
"This year as the recession took hold we saw a shift in women's priorities as they began to invest more into their own wellbeing. Residential bootcamps have exploded in popularity, with some others choosing more holistic, luxury active breaks abroad," she said.
The specialist added that traditional activities such as walking and running will continue to be popular and she predicted that cycling will play a major role in the lives of those hoping to get fit.
She told people with affordable health insurance that riding a bike is "a great way to get fit and is also fun, so much easier to get motivated for".
"One of the best things about outdoor exercise is that it's free - running, cycling, wild swimming - people are increasingly leaving indoor exercise behind to explore the outdoors," Ms Tough said.
